COVEN OF CROWS - HOODED CROW by markp

COVEN OF CROWS - HOODED CROW

This is a Hooded Crow (Corvus cornix), in size and behaviour it is very similar to the Carrion Crow, in fact for a long time it was thought to be a subspecies. It is now recognised as a separate species. The main obvious difference is that grey hood, which gives it it's nickname of "Hoodie".
In Britain they are mainly restricted to the West and north of Scotland.

Lovely shots of the black brigade - each one of the birds beautiful in their own right -- this hooded crow has wonderful markings on his "hood " feathers . fav

Don't witches have covens? May witches have crows too! Excellent picture - he does have a black eye!

Very interesting and informative tour through the crows of Scotland. Never knew there were grey crows, around here we have big, glossy, black ones.
