DEVIL TAKE THE HINDMOST by markp

DEVIL TAKE THE HINDMOST

This one of several cycling events at the recent Invercharron Highland Games.
The races are run around the grass track, that had been mown into the long grass of a field that had recently held sheep.
As well as cycling, it was used for various running events, and to start the hill race, as a run up for the long jump and also for staging exciting events like the sack race and egg and spoon races.
This track, followed the contours of the field, and the riders here had just come down quite a steep drop. The longer sides were fairly flat, but there was a climb back up to the start finish line.

The bikes were similar to track bikes, with no brakes and a fixed wheel, so no free wheeling, just constant pedalling.

In Devil Takes the Hindmost, all the riders start together and race around the track. On each lap as they cross the start / finish line who ever is the last rider, drops out. The winner is the final one still riding.
