ERISKAY PONY by markp

ERISKAY PONY

An ancient breed of pony, used by the island crofters, to move peat, seaweed and even to plough with.
By the early 70's they were in great danger of dying out. There were just 20 mares and one stallion left.
A conservation project was started, and while still listed as critically endangered by the Rare Breeds Trust, there are now over 400 around the UK.
