Opened in 1903, this church was built by the islanders themselves. They quarried and transported all the stone to the site. The local fishermen wished to help, and offered to donate the proceeds of a nights fishing. After a long session of fervent praying, they went out to sea and returned with a record catch. This was worth over two hundred pounds ! A very considerable sum in those days !
Look closely, beneath the altar, there is the bow of a boat, to mark the islands fishing heritage.
