The campaign consists of 10,000 eyes that were left in public space in Rotterdam. The project started in the district of Delfshaven before spreading to other areas. Part of the project agains crime was a bunch of scrap cars painted by students. The main objective of the project is to help the police to communicate their anti-crime policy against car burglary and stealing number plates which are among others used in gasoline theft.
During the campaign, residents are encouraged to have their license plates fixed and the number engraved in the car window for free.
Not everyone feels addressed by the campaign. This piece of art in Blijdorp arrived only yesterday and despite the text 'Keep off' on the number plates, the window has been shattered already. It's the second crime victim I encounter. The first car was removed from the 'Overschie desert' before I could take a picture. Maybe it was a sign because it definitely wasn't painted as beautiful as this one.
