This chap's brother, Kester, was playing Minecraft. Maybe you have children too, then you know what I'm talking about. It's a hype, a game about chopping trees, mining precious metals and building some place to stay without being killed by zombies and skeletons with bow and arrow at night. Nothing less, nothing more.
Kester just finished his brick housing and there aren't any goblins around. He says he doesn't know what to do next.
I tell him it's a dumb game because it's meaningless. I tell him he can only just wander about and mine some more. I also suggest to stop since the game doesn't have a goal (I know all about it because I play the game too :-).
In the meantime Fabio (9 years old) twists and turns to keep his eyes on the little screen in his brother's hands. He replies to my question by telling me my question is dumb too. 'What is the meaning of the game you ask? You might just as well ask about the meaning of life.'
Eh... Yes Fabio, true. That's a question that keeps entire communities busy without ever finding the answer.
Well then, Fabio commented, if we live life without knowing why, why can't we play Minecraft without a goal?
The minds of kids! Sometimes they amaze me!!
My kids also have played minecraft and are very dismayed when the darn creepers and endermen destroy their buildings when they are away!
