American Underslung 644, 1914

Underslung is a technique in which the axles are mounted above the chassis. With larger tires the ground clearance remains more than sufficient, but the road holding is much better. American Underslung existed for less than 10 years, from 1905 to 1914. Yet it is one of the most prestigious brands of its time.

Very striking but find it interesting that the drive is on the right.

@joysabin Interesting question and well spotted! The first cars were all produced with the steering wheel on the curbside. Manufacturers simply copied everything from the competition. Ford's Model T (1908) was the first car with the steering on the left side to protect the passenger from traffic. By 1915 the Model T was so popular that all brands began to copy Ford, including the steering wheel on the left.
