Apple by mcsiegle

Apple

Inspired by @stevied Steve's photos of strawberries and sugar/cream, I decided to try to create a black background for a shot of an apple -- my first shot for the tag challenge. My tags were "fruit photos" and "red." I tried something I had read about -- using something like a pail to create the dark background. In this case it was a dark blue enameled canner. Not too bad for a first attempt. I did clone out a wee bit of lighter area on one side, but left the speckles of the blue enamelware at the bottom to ground the image. I do hope to work my way up from this simplistic shot. I bought a piece of black fabric a while back, but not sure where it is. A lot of things got stashed in odd places during the renovation, to be found sometime later.
@stevied Nothing to compare with your beautiful strawberry shots, but I wanted to show you I have decided to go ahead and experiment. The apple seems kind of two dimensional. Ah, well...I need to learn more about how to use light. This was just natural light on the back porch.

This is lovely. I also want to learn more about using light. Hope to take a true photography class over the summer and move past just using the auto setting on my Nikon.
