My get pushed partner Jan Rose @jan20 has lots of wonderful pictures of birds with water (her latest posting is a swan) so she challenged me to do the same and added "maybe with a reflection."
Well...I know she wants me to photograph wildlife. I alsoknew this week I might not get out to Tuttle Creek reservoir (or the zoo?) to find birds in a natural watery setting. I briefly entertained the idea of total cop out and re-photographing the rubber duckie my son named "Blood Bath." But I hated to stray so very, very far from the intended. So in desperation, Wednesday evening I headed to the pet store. You'll have to take my word for the fact that the green bird in the foreground is drinking from the water dish. You really can't see the water. All the parakeets were much more interested in the seed dishes, so I had to wait. They are really difficult to get good photos of. Either sleeping (boring) or flitting about and/or squabbling over the seed dishes, resulting in many inartistic, poorly composed, motion-blurred shots.
I'd like to point out, however, that I did get a reflection in there. See the lights reflecting off the green water container and blue seed dish? Not, of course, what Jan intended. :-)
If I get a chance sometime later to try for a real wild bird on water photo, and get a decent one, I will be sure to tag her. In the meantime, this is it.
But you gave her headless birds - that's pretty imaginative, isn't it? Just kidding, I think it is an amusing shot - and you did get all the elements in.
