So...this spiderweb photo I know doesn't hold a candle to some of the beautiful pictures I've seen posted here. But I was very pleased that I could get it in focus at all. On the web (www, I mean-- pun intended) I see the term "trash line orb weaver" for the type of spider that builds these lines of disgusting detritus into their web. Other than that, I know nothing, so if you know more about it, feel free to fill me in.
There's been some post processing applied here, for good or ill.
Apparently this tiny spider uses the 'trash line' - called the stabilimentum - to attract prey and also as a hiding place while it waits for the prey to arrive. I've never seen one of these so thanks for sharing.

Oh, no! The dreaded self-portrait. I should be careful what I wish for. Just yesterday I was telling my sister in law we both ought to do that she said she's not "scared of it." She just doesn't like to do it. You're right. I've done only a little self portrait and not much portraiture of any type. Good challenge for me.
