We finally got a decent snowfall -- nothing compared to what's hitting the eastern seaboard, but 2-4 inches. The dinosaurs wanted to go out and play around in it. I finally relented, but I made them all wear scarves around their necks. In retrospect, I should have insisted that Neanderthal Man put on more than that. He was shivering half way through (as well I might in his scant clothes) but insisted on sticking it out until the dinosaurs were ready to come in. The Allosaurus and adult Apatosaurus took turns helping to support him. I suppose their body heat kept him from freezing.
The Triceratops Twins squared off and were kicking the snow up and onto some of the others, having a contest to see who could kick it highest. I was glad I had the adults there to help supervise. The Apatosaurus does a particularly good job overseeing the youngsters. Of course two of them are his.
I had brought them out to a section of rock wall that I had carefully swept down with a dry paint brush to a more reasonable snow height for them. I didn't want to impose rules like carnival rides "you have to be THIS tall to ride." Most of them wouldn't have qualified.
The Dimetrodon wasn't impressed with the height of the snow until I showed him the part I hadn't swept down. He reluctantly agreed it wouldn't have been smart to play in that! The Allosaurus, however, DID jump into the deep end (typical!) and was in up to his neck. The photos I got of that weren't very good, but here's a picture of him as he climbed out.
When I brought them in there was wiping of the feet and in some cases whole bodies. The scarves also were soaked. I had had to trim some of them down on the ends so they weren't tripping on them. Next time I may look online for winter apparel in a more suitable size. The problem is -- if you do a search on "scarves" and "dinosaur size" you get huge, humongous sized stuff as a result. And it just sounds weird to search for scarves for "dinosaur museum replicas" which they technically are, and know they are, but don't like to be reminded of it.
Anyway, a fun time was had by all. We are thinking of those folks being affected by blizzard conditions. If you are one of them, try to stay inside and keep warm and safe.
so much fun to read your tussle with the dinosaurs. Amazing that they let you talk them into wearing scarves seeing as how hard-headed they are. Better out playing in the cold snow than watching TV I would think.
Yo! Luv the dinos glad they got to play again, if you were closer to me I'd happily knit them some scarves 😀 Glad you got snow, but yes does look bad in the East. Fav.
Hi Mary, I'm your Get Pushed Partner for this week. Great photos. This week I challenge you to take a portrait of some kind whether it be of someone or yourself. I look forward to your challenge.
