Liz Hammond @lizhammond gave me this get pushed challenge:
"The challenge is to shoot a B&W image on one (or more) of the following themes:
1. Fool gold
2. Go for broke
3. Icing on the cake
4. Up a blind alley
Will be interested to see if the Dinos & gang get to feature, have fun."
So I sat down with the dinosaurs' theme committee and they liked the idea of portraying "Go for broke" with some sort of gambling or game of chance. (They really wanted to assemble a game show setting, but we didn't have time.) Here four of the dinosaurs are playing a friendly game of craps. It was beautiful outside so they played out on the back stoop. Thank goodness it was NOT windy, which it has been lately. Still, they all sat on their money to be double sure it didn't blow away.
The Plesiosaurus has put down $10 and the Apatosaurus bet $20. The Dimetrodon has decided to "go for broke" and put in his $100 bill in hopes of getting the Stegosaurus to do the same. If he loses the $100, he has only $1 left. I went back inside after I took the picture, so I have no idea how it turned out, but afterwards they were still all friends and speaking to one another, so...I guess it doesn't matter.
Hi Mary, great response & you got the dinosaurs in too, so bonus points for that. I love the way there appears to be eye contact/interplay between them. I think looks better on black.
Hi Mary, me again! Did you try cropping the garden bit at the top out? just scrolling up and caught it without & I think it makes the image even stronger as you only have the dinos, money and their dice to focus on. Would love to know what you (& the dinos) think.
@lizhammond@vignouse Apologies for the long delay in responding. The first few shots I took were just dinos and concrete, but I thought they looked too bare and not sufficiently "anchored" in the location. So I included the bit of garden to give it some context as being on the back stoop. I just now tried this same shot cropped and with more text to help with the bare concrete. Posting it here: http://365project.org/mcsiegle/alternates/2016-02-20
What do you think? I haven't yet shown it to the dinosaurs...
