On Games Night - a sobering thought

The 365 Toys are playing again during the month of August. This week their theme is games. So the dinosaurs, Neanderthal Men, and I had a games night last night. We hauled out a bunch of games and split up into groups of whoever wanted to play what. The plesiosaurus, mososaurus, and rhamphorhynchus decided on a game called "Would You Rather...?" Really they didn't want to play the game, per se. They just were getting a laugh out of reading the questions on the cards. Some of the choices are ridiculous -- like, would you rather smell horrible and have people constantly telling you, or smell bad, but have them talking behind your back. That's a paraphrase, but you get the idea. We all were yucking it up and having a high old time until the plesiosaurus suddenly stopped laughing as he looked at the bottom question on the card in front of him. When he read it aloud we realized why he was suddenly so silent. It read "Have to try to protect your house from a rapidly rising river with sandbags -- OR -- try to protect it from a rapidly approaching fire by hosing it down?"

Oh, my.

That is a choice too horrible to contemplate from the comfort of our home in Kansas.
Our hearts go out to the people in Louisiana and California. We said a prayer for them before we put the cards away.

I took photos of the other groups of dinosaurs and the Neanderthal Men and the games they were playing. I'll post those later.
It is interesting to think how things can be funny until they're not.

A friend has seen those fires out her window 20 miles away. How scary is that. Sometimes reality mixes with bizarre in games like this.

A very sobering question . I imagine the people in California wish they had some of that Louisiana water and I imagine the people in Louisiana would gladly give it to them

Agree with all above

That is so tough, and how à propos... :S

I'm sure when those folks were making up the questions the catastrophes we're facing right now were far from their thoughts. It's interesting how the context can change so quickly. I'm glad you all turned it into an opportunity to empathize with those who are going through hard times now. Bravo to the dinos and you!
