Goodbye to all the old words. by mcsiegle

Goodbye to all the old words.

Wringing the last good (photo op and six word story) from these old disks — a few even older than the others. I now have no way of reading any of them. The files on some of them were transferred to a newer format long ago.
Oh, my. My husband has a box of those old disks.

Nice capture of the old floppy discs. I'm curious. How did you dispose of them?

Also saved one for the children.

@randystreat Just took a scissors to the oldest and floppiest. The others I pried open and took out the film layer that had the contents, then took the scissors to that. Everything then in the trash can.

@sdutoit I saved one of each format for nostalgia/posterity. Probably shouldn’t have even done that.

@30pics4jackiesdiamond Thanks. You were smart to have that backup in a different place. I presume you never had to fall back on it. Better safe than sorry. We were just lucky.

@homeschoolmom If he has the computer that can read them, he should transfer what he wants to keep onto a newer format before it’s too late. Whatever was on the ones I didn’t convert I’ll live without. I didn’t think it was worth the time or expense of seeking out the person who has the old equipment. My old Mac with documents I had been hoping to save had the floppy disk drive get fried out during a storm long ago. When I turned it on a while back the hard drive didn’t boot up either. Ah, well!
