My experiment with slow sync flash (the get pushed challenge given me by Kali @kali66 ) with the great assistance of the Allosaurus as model, continued indoors after mosquitoes drove us from the front porch and front fence post. http://365project.org/mcsiegle/365/2017-09-10
The porch light was still on and the light coming through the window and casting shadow on the wall proved a good thing to try to capture. This is one of the shots taken using the "Night Portrait" mode on my camera that Kali identified as providing the slow sync flash. There was nothing I could really adjust on the camera once the "Night Portrait" scene setting was employed. But I varied the amount and location of indoor ambient light to get the best effect. Too much incandescent light messed with the white balance which the camera set for flash.
I'm not posting any comparison shot taken without the slow sync flash, because none of the resulting shots were much good. I tried regular flash with varying ISO, f-stop, shutter speed. I also tried very long shutter speed and no flash, using the 2 second delay to let me get my finger off the shutter release while I left the camera sitting on the tray table where the Allosaurus so patiently posed. (I am incredibly lazy with respect to using a tripod, and avoid taking the trouble to set it up unless there is no alternative.) The shots either lit the dino with flash and left a black hole as background, or completely blew out the Allosaurus in the attempt to get background somewhat lit. If I got enough light. Or, lit everything so much the dark room quality was destroyed, OR the background would have been OK but the Allosaurus was too dark, OR he was almost OK but his face was still too dark to distinguish the expression on his face, (which as the experiment wore on was becoming strained -- poor guy) No flash but high ISO made things so grainy it wasn't too great... etc Again, good challenge, Kali. I fought doing it, but did learn something.
