Happy National Doughnut Day by mcsiegle

Happy National Doughnut Day

It's National Doughnut Day (at least it still is here in Kansas for another 40 minutes or so). After work I stopped at a place near campus -- Varsity Donuts. They sell doughnuts and rent bicycles for the day. Their storefront was the Palace Drug for many years. A beautiful old-fashioned place. I stopped only to take some pictures, not to buy doughnuts because Frank just bought a bunch from them the other day and froze them in individual bags for his daily sweet at lunch. Now we find out that as soon as they start the construction on the addition to our house (maybe next week) they will turn off our electricity and so we definitely don't want to put more in the freezer. I got there too late for free little donuts they were turning out with a mini-doughnut machine in front of the store, but then I didn't even know they were having them. C'est la vie.

What an interesting combination...bicycle rentals and donuts! Great day, they look yummy.

@degarvey They are yummy! The folks that run Varsity Donuts are bicycle aficionado's -- their buddies at Big Poppi Bicycle Co. a couple blocks away have lent a hand helping to get the vintage bikes restored to good working order. As they say, it's a good way to exercise off the donuts.
