This is one of the leftover edits from last week’s Fork Week. Jackie @30pics4jackiesdiamond had suggested I look into the Fork’s family history—knowing how hooked I am on genealogy. So I proceeded to do just that, using the information found on his backside. I learned that his family name (pattern) is “Old Colony,” first produced in 1911 and discontinued in 1973. It’s in the “1847 Rogers Brothers” line, which dates back to 1862, if I’m reading things correctly. Quite a few companies have, at one time or another, employed the Rogers name, the earliest being Rogers Brothers, organized in 1847 by William Rogers and his two brothers. In 1898 a number of companies merged to become International Silver Co. (It becomes a bit difficult to trace lineage back very far on this Fork with any certainty.)
The branch of the “Old Colony” family that my Fork belongs to has a leaf pattern on the back of the business end. Some varieties don’t have that leaf. Here’s the shot in my main album of the Fork as he looked at a picture of a relative found on eBay.
