Over the last few days, I've spent some time in the garage, moving stuff around and identifying things to get rid of. Yesterday I emptied a couple of cheap 2-drawer filing cabinets, took them to Howie’s for recycling, and moved other filing cabinets around to take their place and make some room in the rest of the garage. My ultimate goal is to be able to put a car in there again.
I'm a ways away from achieving that, but in the meantime, I know we need to go through what is in those remaining file cabinets, organize the stuff, and hopefully get rid of a bunch of it. Today I enlisted the help of the Dimetrodon and the Plesiosaurus to do a rough inventory of some of it. While the Plesiosaurus scanned the contents, the Dimetrodon used the microphone and voice dictation feature on the iPod to record what the Plesiosaurus called out to him. He has such a quick mind and clear diction, I knew he would take good notes.
We didn't get too far, though. As soon as we hit a sizeable bunch of old letters, we ended up bringing them inside and reading through them. Among them there was a bunch of congratulatory cards and letters sent to us when Dan was born. (He turned 40 years old in March!) and a few letters from my Aunt Tess to me in college; she died of cancer during my sophomore year.
Frank and I will go through the file drawers little by little. And I probably will get the dinosaurs to do some more inventorying. They really were a great help today.
Good to know you have lots of help!
