Rolvenden Windmill by megpicatilly

Rolvenden Windmill

Rolvenden Windmill is believed to have been built in 1580 of tarred rather than painted weatherboarding, but stopped being a working mill in 1883. By the 1950s it was becoming increasingly derelict but fortunately in 1956, it was restored by a couple in memory of their son who died in 1955.
Super scene and capture fav!

You've made this look quite powerful Catherine - a mill that would shout at the wind, "Do your worst!" Like it.

I would love to see this - it looks so serene, yet you can tell a storm was heading your way.

Great shot, I think windmills are quite magical. I would have loved to live in either a windmill or a lighthouse when I was a child. I had a fascination for round buildings.

Isn't it wonderful that there are people who care enough (and have the means) to preserve things like this. Really like your composition of this windmill. So powerful looking. Fav

It is a lovely photo. The contrast of the mill against the sky and clouds is beautiful.

@milaniet Thank you and for the fav. So many of these precious buildings would be lost if people didn't care.

@joysabin Thank you so much Joy, and for the fav. I wanted something to soften it a little - a black vignette was too harsh even at low opacity, so went for white instead, which is much softer!

@leggzy Thank you. I pass it so often but have never stopped to photograph it! Thank you for the fav too.
