The Military Canal was built between 1804 and 1809 as a coastal defence against the expected landing of Napolean's troops on Romney Marsh. By the time the canal was completed, the threat had passed following Napolean's defeat at Trafalgar. The small brick building on the right is a Pillbox, built in the second world war to house either infantry, anti-tank guns or field infrantry. All very peaceful now and a very enjoyable place to walk.
