Song Challenge for September
Day 16-A song that you used to like, but now hate.
I had to tweak this challenge a bit as I could not think of a song that I used to like, but now hate. There are a lot of songs that I may not necessarily really like, but I somehow associate then with a person or some other memory, therefore I can never hate them.
That being said, I decided to do a photograph to represent a song that I used to not like, but now I do.
The tile for this photo and the idea behind it come from Beyonce's "Sweet Dreams", which can be heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlxByc0-V40
I remember the first time I heard this song I thought that the beginning music sounded like a rip off of Michael Jackson's Thriller. Flash forward to this July when one morning while on a camp vacation, the staff decided that we needed to have a 9 a.m. dance fest. This song came on the radio and when the song got to the part that says "my guilty pleasure I ain't going nowhere" one of the staff members, Trib, got up and did the dance sequence that correlates with that part of the song perfectly. Seeing this put a smile on my face. Whenever I hear this song now, I think of Trib. Unfortunately, most days at 9 a.m. I am not thinking about taking photos, so I do not have a picture of Trib doing this dance. So I chose another part of the song and composed a photo to represent that.
Editing consisted of Picnik's auto fix, vignette, soften, sepia, orton-ish.
@janmaki
Thanks! What do you think of the composition? The hands looked okay when I shot the photo, but once I did all the editing, it seems like they should have been up a little higher. Thoughts?
@mej2011 hmm, I like the straight-on POV and how the hands fill the frame. Also I like how the light comes from above (prayers and "above" go well together...).
If I'd try to tweak composition, I would maybe zoom out a bit and add negative space above hands (the prayer direction...). Another thing could be to shoot a bit lower, again to emphasize the "above" idea.
Thank you so much Joseph!
