Forks in Love

It's @janim 's birthday today, and a few of us decided to do photographs in honor of our favorite Finn!
Anyone remember Jani's self portrait with the KISS make up (which I sadly can't link because he deleted his old account)? Re-creating that was my plan, until I realized that I can't get decent d.o.f. except on accident. And I can't figure out for the life of me how to work the path tool in GIMP. And I mighta broke my tripod.
So forks it is! This idea started out as multiple forks all in different sizes, indicating Jani's fork obsession throughout the years, but I couldn't get them all in one picture. Then I tried making a tower out of three forks, but the littlest one wouldn't stand straight and we all know how Jani hates things when they're not straight, so that was out. Finally, I realized that Jani is at his best when he's simplistic, so that's what I tried to go for here.
Editing consisted of cropping, and silver screen effect in Ribbet.
Happy Birthday Jani!
Great shot! Very unique idea! Fantastic!

Thank you so much ! :) Loved the story how you came to doing this shot... so I assume the lady fork is on the left ? :) Fav!

@janim
I have no idea why I didn't get notification for this. I don't know, I'm not savvy on fork genders. I think that's your area of expertise. ;)
So one day you'll have to FB me and explain how to do the path tool because I don't get it.

@mej2011 path tool is a bit tricky to figure out at first.... http://www.quackit.com/web_graphics/gimp/tutorial/drawing_paths_with_gimp.cfm maybe that will help ?

I'm so glad to see one of us did the fork thing, too. I had an idea in my mind, tried it and trashed it right away. :D Three different styles of Jani were channeled and yours works like a charm. The focus on this is great - and I do think he's right about the genders of the forks. :D But hey, get a wireless remote - it's the best idea ever for anyone wanting to ever do any selfies! :)

@janim
Thanks! I'll check it out!

@joa @janim
Why am I not aware of forks having genders?
April 4th, 2013
@joa
I have not yet been able to find a wireless remote that is compatible with my camera.I think this is somebody's way of telling me that I just shouldn't do selfies. :)
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 Hah, a perfect excuse to buy a CAMERA that would fit, say, a Hähnel remote. :D
April 4th, 2013
@joa
lol. I'm mostly still stuck on program modes with this camera. I DO NOT need more bells and whistles. lol
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 Oh, but you DO! You may not know it yet, but you DO! :D I thought I didn't need them - that was about 1,5 years ago. Then, wham, it hit me. I WANT those bells and whistles. :D Go, go, go for it! :P
April 4th, 2013
@joa
That is NOT a very convincing argument. :)
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 It's the only one you need. :P
April 4th, 2013
@joa
I'm sticking with my theory that I'm just not meant to do selfies. :O
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 Pishposh, you're wrong. :D
April 4th, 2013
@joa
Pishposh? that sounds like something my grandma would say.
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 Lol, I just felt like it. And works better than höpöhöpö, because that'd be the wrong language. :D
April 4th, 2013
@joa
Yes, but I can google translate that.
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 Hahah! Well then, höpöhöpö. Or höpsis. :D
April 4th, 2013
@joa
Or maybe not. According to Google Translate, that is German and has no American translation.
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 LOL! I could've told you that Google Translate has a horrible track record with Finnish. :D Especially with colloquialisms.
April 4th, 2013
@joa
Well then why didn't you tell me? lol. It usually works well for when I randomly try and talk Finnish with Jani on facebook.
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 Hahah, well, I did think you'd know it by now. :D
April 4th, 2013
@joa
Eh, I honestly just forget that some people here speak other languages. lol
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 Jani and I are clearly not talking enough of Finnish here. :P
April 4th, 2013
@joa
Great, now I'm going to get random comments from him that are going to make zero sense. lol
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 Hahah, I think we should totally start commenting in Finnish all the time. :D
April 4th, 2013
@joa
Hauskaa, että. (again Google translate so you can't blame me if that is totally off. )
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 LOL! "Fun(ny), that." doesn't really translate well. :D It's a literal translation, sure, but... :D Since I am able to figure out the original, it makes sense. :D
April 4th, 2013
@joa
That says funny that? It was supposed to say "have fun with that"....fail.
April 4th, 2013
@mej2011 LOL! Epic fail. :D It doesn't have a verb in it! "Että" is that, and strictly used as a particle (you couldn't use that word in this sentence, for example) and "hauskaa" is fun, a partitive form of it.

Yes, sorry, I've also done a few years of Finnish teaching... :D
April 4th, 2013
@joa
Then I guess you will just have to find me a correct translator. :)
April 4th, 2013
So many forks popping up on my newsfeed the other day:) Excellent Jani tribute!
April 6th, 2013
@westcoastwallis
That's so funny, Jani has so many different elements to his style and yet a lot of us seem to gravitate towards the forks.
