Contrast

I'm trying to get back into the swing of the "Get Pushed" contest. This week my challenge was "black and white high contrast" given by @lindseying
I was a bit confused between the difference of high contrast and high key photography. IF( big if) I understand it, high contrast has more darker tones that high key. I tried doing a self portrait for this challenge, but the end result was very cartoony and I wasn't fond of it.

Would it be possible to ask for another challenge? I've had this challenge (or some type of portrait) the last 3 challenges I believe. I live in a rural area and the people I do see regularly, aren't keen on having their photos taken.
