Cats love to feel protected by having things at their backs so they only have to keep watch in a couple of directions.
Would be interesting to see what the POV is like if you got down on the floor or even just held the camera down and clicked the shutter button. You could try live view to see what you're aiming at. I don't know anything about guide mode, though. I've never used it. I'd advise you to use either A (aperture) or S (shutter speed) modes and then go to Manual once you've got a handle on A and S. The quickest way to learn it to shoot and compare the changes between settings.
@obmcreations
Low point of views are always hard for me as I am in a wheelchair, but I could try using a tripod for a lower point of view maybe.
On my old camera (Nikon Coolpix P100) I was pretty familiar with Aperture, Shutter speed modes and some what comfortable with manual. However, I haven't figured out how to change settings yet on the D3200, so I will have to work on that tomorrow.
@bobfoto
This is the first shot with the D3200. Most shots are being done in "guide" mode right because I have no idea what I'm doing and my "stand by" settings from the Coolpix P100, don't seem to want to work on the D3200.

That makes sense, I would just think being pretty much out in the open still wouldn't help much.

Thanks Mike!

Beer O'clock now.
I've yet to find a cup of tea that I enjoy.
