Where's The Honey?!

Comments on composition? I like the size comparison between the bee and the hole in the wood and I like the shadow of the wings, but I don't know, my eye goes to the hole first.

Anyways, editing consisted of a tiny, tiny, tiny crop in Ribbet. Actually taken May 4th 2014
I wonder if it has more of an emphasis on texture overall, than on the focal items. I find that my eye is drawn first to the hole, then to the shadow, and last to the bee. I think because of the shadow, the bee gets dwarfed.

love the shadow of his/her wings!

Nice photo. Maybe crop out the hole and let us concentrate on the shadows and the textures of the tree... Just my thought :)

@mej2011 What if you were to blur the hole a bit -- do you have any processing options? Or selective color may work to bring the bee up. I think there's potential, but one of those photos that have to be tweaked (like almost all the ones I take!).

@mikekutz
I"ll give that a shot with the extra copies I have. Thanks for the suggestion!

@taffy
Thanks for the suggestions! I do have Photoshop Elements 12, I just don't really know how to use it yet. But I could do some blurring in Ribbet. I'll work on it.

I agree with @taffy, first the hole then the shadow then the bee. Then it took me a while to work out which way round the bee is, it's difficult to tell where the been ends and the shadow begins. I might start by cropping out the hole completely, effectively making the shot portrait, then turning it so the bee is horizontal. I might then think about how to make the bee pop out from the background by blurring or de-saturating the background a little.

I think your dad is right, that bee does look like he has been tagged!
