Carnarvon played an important role in the manned space program and in the Australian satellite communications industry.
The Carnarvon Tracking Station (which is no longer standing) was commissioned in 1964 and operated for 11 years. It supported NASA's Gemini, Apollo and Skylab programs.
The OTC Satellite Earth Station was opened in 1966 and was part of the global satellite communications system. It is now the site of the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum
Isn’t that amazing! Incredible what they could do so many years ago and how things are changing. Fantastic information, and great shot, glad it is for show at a museum.
