Sloan's Cottage, Kwinana DSC_3100

Thank you all for the lovely comments and favs that put Curious Coot on PP. Unfortunately it was an expensive shot. While out in the park taking photos I lost a silver and pearl pendant and it's chain. To make it worse it was a birthday gift from dear friends. :(
On a lighter note Sloan's Cottage is part of Sloan's Reserve, which was originally a farm.
It was taken up George Sloan sometime around 1880, (Our European history in Western Australia isn't very long.) not long after he married Emma Smirk. Fruit and vegetables were the main source of income - though it was a full day's trip by horse to sell them at the Fremantle Markets.
The current cottage was built by George Sloan in 1911. It stands near the site of George and Emma's original dwelling, built in 1885.
The cottage fell into disrepair during the early 1970s and was largely restored by former Kwinana Mayor Wally Procktor.
Further restoration was undertaken in the 1990s and it is now classified by the National Trust along with the reserve and surrounding woodlands.
It is lovely to see some of our short history being preserved and so well maintained.
A lovely looking cottage, so nice to see it has been restored and classified by National Trust. What a shame to lose the pendant Merrelyn :)
