On A Mission_DSC5309

The unpacking and cleaning everything after our trip has started and it will take a couple of days to get it all back in order.
This mudlark was having a feast on the front lawn while Graham was getting the mud off of the car and camper.
Awesome picture.

Why is it called a mudlark? Very interesting bird and a great capture?

@sarasotab It's proper name is magpie-lark (Grallina cyanoleuca) but its common name varies, depending on which part of Australia you are in,(the mudlark in Victoria and Western Australia, the Murray magpie in South Australia, and as the peewee in New South Wales and Queensland). As to why, I'm afraid I don't know.

I am glad you gave that info as I was thinking it was a peewee! And it is! Hope you had a great trip.

Great shot, he is strutting his stuff. I think it will take Graham a while to get rid of all that mud off the car and camper.

I bet he is hanging around for some easily acquired mud for his nest :)

Great shot

An unusual bird to me. It is part of the crow family?
June 12th, 2016
@marshwader No, it is actually part of the magpie family. They are very inquisitive.

@merrelyn Yes, I can see that now. Magpies are of course part of the crow family!
