We had the perfect day for the Rockingham Beach Cup, the first beach horse racing event ever held in Western Australia. The crowd was estimated to be around 50,000. The main beneficiaries of the event were the McCusker Alzheimer Research Foundation and Variety.
After spending more than 12 hours at the festival, I'm shattered, so I'll try to catch up tomorrow.
Better on black.
@hermann thanks Sally. We were a bit worried about that too, but they managed to stay out of the way. The jockeys involved in the day had such a great time that they all want to sign on for the event next year.
@gilbertwood thanks Denise. We were staggered at the turn out. The jockeys all had a great day. As the beach isn't a gazetted race track, there was no betting or gated start, so they weren't racing for sheep stations.
@jodies thanks Jodie, it was a great day. A perk of being married to one of the organisers, was that I could don a fluoro vest and go down near the finish line to get some shots.
