Soaking Up Those Rays by milaniet

Soaking Up Those Rays

I'd never caught a heron do this before - wasn't tickled with the background but had to shoot before he/she changed their mind and folded those wings back up. Reminded me of a ball gown!
Great capture.

I have and other Birds as well. It is been suggested that they are opening them wings to the sun for warmth and/or drying the wings. It's not something I see often but I have seen them do that and there was some discussion on the burden group at one time I don't quite remember the gist of it.

OMG I posted a Heron today, too. Never seen one do this. Did he hold his wings open for a while? Great to capture this.

@kathiecb They were open like this when I first spotted him and I got several shots, but when I approached a little closer he closed them down and started walking toward the water where I shot the other picture.
