Definitely not my best shot but I wonder if anyone can tell me what it is - the inset is when I flipped it over with a piece of grass - he wasn't happy about being disturbed. Learned an important lesson today - don't travel without the mini tripod even if it is a dull dreary day!
Cool find. The DOF doesn't bother me because the antennae are so sharp.This moth looks fake! I've never seen one like it, especially the red legs! I think it might be a kind of tiger moth. It's about the size, shape, and basic coloring of that Tiger Moth picture but this one definitely had more red markings on the legs and there was a faint outlining of an orange/red line tracing the rear of the wings, both top and underneath. The hairy looking head really surprised me - never seen anything quite like that.
