Spring Really IS Arriving

Photographic quality negative - but butterfly sighting positive! This Mourning Cloak is the first butterfly to be spotted this year. Would have been nice to have landed in a more scenic spot - but - maybe next time.
Oooooooooooop my favorite! I love and raise monarchs but these are my fav.they overwinter as butterflies in forests and nectar on tree sap among other woodland things so they are never in colorful settings.fav!

I love Mourning Cloaks too, and when I have seen one they have been on the ground like this. I am happy that you shared this despite your reservations about the photographic quality. His yellow edge shimmers like gold leaf!

Beautiful capture. Butterlies usually appear here in May. How fortunate you are to have butterlies in March.

How pretty! I planted some Lantana this weekend to start my butterfly garden again. The winter killed the few plants I had, except the Milkweed!

@kathysview I'm thinking I'm going to have to replant the lantana, too - it's not showing any sign of life. Hoping my butterfly bush made it. It is getting some new leaves.

Ah so beautiful!! Instant fav! I remember seeing one of them when there was still a bit of snow on the ground last year!

Those wing's edges look as if they're made of goldleaf. Beautiful! And so exciting to see in your yard once again, I'm sure.

Seems like all you guys in Nth America are really hanging out for spring.

Your first sighting of the season and a new-to-me one! Great catch.
If your butterfly bush is a buddleia it should be fine, they're as tough as old boots. I've seen those grow out of cracks in old window ledges a couple of storeys up!

Lovely shot, great looking butterfly, I saw the first ones in the garden this year on the 9th as I was getting ready to go away, but no photos.
