The hummingbirds have been few and far between - sure was happy to see this one stop briefly in the backyard - picture quality isn't the best, but I was so happy to see him that he earned his spot here today.
Pretty composition. Are those forget-me-nots it's feeding on? I have a plant on my balcony that looks very much like that, and I did see a hummingbird about a week ago, but by the time I grabbed my camera it was gone, and I haven't spotted one since.
@skstein No Sandy, that's the butterfly bush - it definitely attracts more hummingbirds than butterflies. It can grow to be pretty big, but I keep it in a pot and trimmed back some.
A wonderful capture -- it's so sad that we are seeing fewer of them. I just hope that it's because the migratory pattern has changed, not that there are actually fewer hummingbirds. They're so magical.
It looks as though there's lots of dinner options for this hummingbird to choose from. Super mid-air shot you've captured!
You commented on my grasshopper on barley pic about there not being as many insects this year. I've been thinking that same thing for the past three or four years. Oddly, (and luckily), this year has been different. While butterflies have been a rarity in the past, all of a sudden there seems to be one or two in the yard all the time now. I feel so blessed when I see them.
