Construction Zone

I'm hoping someone can tell me what I almost walked into this morning. They were crawling all over whatever this is - At first I thought wasps, but the nest doesn't seemed shaped right. Something different today. My guess is the red wasp.
great find and photo Milanie sorry never seen these type of Insects before so can not tell you what type they are

Great capture of the "bee hive" activitiy. They do look like some type of wasp.

You're right it's a funny shape but very interesting. Are those Fireants? Better not step into that nest you may have a nasty surprise...

It does look a bit like a wasps nest and they look a little like wasps,I would not get to close. Anyway they look pretty busy at the moment :)

Not sure either, but look like a wasp or type of ant! Wonderful capture :)

Beautiful capture... Sure looks dangerous!

Very interesting photo, I would be scared of them, although one looks like he's hiding behind that leaf!

Creepy bugs! Nice close up, though.

Not sure either, they sure do look like wasps. Maybe call an exterminator and ask them. Really good photo though

Hubby says that's pretty cool. And then he said he would have run very far away from whatever they are!

The only thing I know is I won't be poking it. Great find, tho
September 4th, 2014
Great shot. No idea what they are, though.

A really wonderful detailed image, but no idea on the insect...

It does look as if you've captured red wasps hard at work, and just at the beginning of their building project. Hopefully they're not extremely close to your home. You managed to take a really good picture — the color's so rich and true and the detail's amazing. Even that angry look on the forefront face is well captured.

Thanks so much for the comment shared on my macaw collage (and likely many pictures before it. I'm so behind in my thank you notes, it may take the rest of the year to get caught up.) I agree that you can see different aspects of RaneBeau's personality in the collection of pictures chosen for the collage. If only you could see the other 25 that didn't get to be included! He's a clown, a ham, a good ball, and a real sweetie.

... make that "goof ball"

Yikes! I don't know but I'm going the other way! Cool find and shot!!!

What an amazing find! Fabulous detail.

Stunning capture with great clarity. I wouldn't stay there very long even though I don't know what they are. They look nasty.

Nice find, and good thing you saw it before walking into it. Glad you got an answer as to what they are. Great shot - nice detail.

You find the best things to photograph. You have captured it well with great detail and a unique POV.

Beautiful capture ...

Wonderful close up detail. Fav

The nest is the same as our Paper Wasp's. Nice shot Milanie

Super capture! Love the wasp activity but I would be careful not to disturb. Wonderful detail and a fav for my nature lover side.
September 4th, 2014
Great capture. This looks like a paper wasp nest. Be careful not to disturb the wasps. They get nasty when they are disturbed when they are building the nests (first hand experience).

@daisymiller Thanks for the warning - stick with the zoom for sure!
September 5th, 2014
wow, great shot!

Well spotted and captured. It's a source of amazement to me how many different constructions there are of wasp nests and wild bee hives. A bit like the varying architecture in different human nations I suppose.

Well noticed and great shot. Great to have a zoom lens to shoot them!
