The little Lark Sparrow is becoming a favorite of mine - like its markings - and the fact that it's not quite as nervous as some other birds! Had called it a Chipping Sparrow until Anne @annepann pointed it out correctly.
No...not a Chipper....something MUCH better. Look up Lark Sparrow in your field guide. I hope to see one some day, and if I get a great shot of it like this, I'll be on cloud nine.
p.s. your photo has captured every single important field mark of this bird, including the breast spot, face pattern, and white tail sides. Might be your best bird photo ever from that point of view. Congratulations.
@annepann Gosh, you made my night, Anne. Thanks for those kind words. I was tickled with how clearly this one showed his details - at first I wasn't happy that he was on that darn chain link fence, but he at least framed himself perfectly there. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me learn all these birds.
The fence works so well as a frame to the bird. Its markings are very pretty - they display at their best in profile as you've caught the bird here. Lovely capture.
