Surprise in the Backyard

Bill would have loved this! Looked out and spotted this hawk in the tree in the backyard. Not another bird in sight fortunately - they spotted him way before I did. Stayed there watching for about 10 minutes then flew off.
He looks like he was trying to keep warm with his feathers all fluffed up.

We aren't too happy to see the hawk visit our feeder for a fast food meal... but a good photo subject!

Beautiful image. This happened to me one day too - I looked out at our cherry tree and there was a hawk sitting on it - first time I've ever seen that. I knew I wasn't quick enough with the camera and so just enjoyed looking at it.

That is a wonderful capture. I'm sure Bill would have liked it too. I'm enamored of raptors. Do you happen to know what breed that might be? Love the detal, particularly the eye. And the color and the light. Did I mention the composition. True Fav.

Even though he's a hunting bird, he looks so cute and fluffy. Well spotted and lovely capture.

@mbrutus Not up real well on hawks, but this might be a red-shouldered hawk - size and markings seem to match the picture.
