Had to go back 4 days to find a shot. Went out with the camera this morning, but absolutely nothing moving - so grey and almost misting. Haven't been out since! He was so far off I didn't know what he was until I put him on the computer. Thinking a flicker??
Yes, you're right - a Flicker. The eastern sub-species used to be called the Yellow-shafted Flicker, and this shot clearly shows why. The central shafts of the primaries (the main wing flight feathers) are yellow. Noce shot.
