This house was built in 1868 and bought by the widow of General Benjamin du Bonneville, a French born officer of the US Army, a fur trapper, and explorer of the West, including the Oregon Trail. In 1997, after changing hands several times, it became part of the Historic District of Fort Smith.
The street was blocked off for repair so I couldn't get a complete angle on this. It is still in use today for special events, weddings, etc.
This reminds me of a building on a Hollywood set back in the days when cowboys were the heros of every young boy. Myself included.
I love the gingerbread trim. They sure don't make them like they used to!
Thanks for the history lesson about a real life trailblazer.
