Have always seen goldenrod this time of year and just considered it a pretty weed. But I've learned it has some other values: adds nitrogen to the soil, is good as an herbal tea, and has some medicinal use also. Who'd have guessed!
It's also popular with people who spin then knit or weave their own yarns; they use it as a dye.
In the UK it's cultivated as a garden plant, although it does readily naturalise in the environment too.
Lovely close-up capture.
