Heron - in a Tree??

I don't believe I've seen one sitting on a limb of a tree before - I'll admit it wasn't one of the higher limbs - but still . . .
Nice shot, it does look a bit odd, but I don't know about yours but the Heron over here nests in large communal Heronry. Normally they are way up high in the trees, on a very large platform that gets used for years, till it falls down. Some of them contain nearly 100 nests, imagine a rookery just on a huge scale. The herons will fly a long way looking for food.

Great shot, Milanie! Does look a bit odd, until you realize that's where they nest! :)

@markp That's fascinating, Mark. Had no knowledge of their habits.

Nice capture. We were out last night in the dark, and one of these guys, who lives on a town lake, came flying by, very low, making such a noise - very scary at night!
