Not posting this because I liked it, but because I am totally lost on how to do this. I was trying the single focus mode, f5.6 focusing on the dandelion. Left one is AF single-ONE SHOT - right is Center AF point. Neither one is by any means sharp.
It's hard to tell for sure on this small shot, but the one on the left seems to be focused on the foreground and soft beyond that, while the one on the right seems more focused on the dandelion and soft in the foreground and beyond the dandelion. At f5.6, the depth of field is very narrow, so on the right, when you focused on the dandelion the area around it are mostly in focus, but everything else is outside the DOF. For the shot on the left, your camera focused for you on the foreground and everything else is outside the DOF. Try this if you have the opportunity to reshoot this: set your aperture to f11 which will widen your DOF, set your ISO to 100-200. If you want the foreground and the distance all in focus, the focus about one third of the way into the scene and take your shot using the shutter speed appropriate for the ambient light.
@cdean1956 thanks, Charles - will give that a try - have written it all down so as soon as I can find a scene I'm try it. Right now they've mowed this all down so will have to hunt another spot.
@mjalkotzy I tried one today with the higher f stop and liked it much better. This was of an old cemetery (small) and you could read the writing on the 1800's tombstone in the foreground while still seeing the leaves on the trees in the background and an American flag in focus in the middle. Much happier!
