And Another First for the Day

Not cropped - but definitely zoomed! Spotted my first snake of the year - this king snake - down by the creek bridge. As long as I see him first, I don't have a problem with snakes.
Well rather you than me but great photograph

Great looking snake Milanie. Are they venomous?
April 13th, 2015
Just asked Prof Google and saw that they are constrictors and are often kept as pets.
April 13th, 2015
Excellent detail in the snakes's markings and the grasses around it Milanie!
How large was he and are they dangerous?

@terryliv No, not that I knew until I brought the camera home and asked my husband - I just assume they're all bad and act accordingly.
April 14th, 2015
@radiogirl King Snakes are not venomous fortunately, but there are some down by that creek that are. Therefore, I assume all are the bad guys. He was about 2 feet long and at his widest about 2 thumbs width.

@calm Caught me - though I didn't mention that part to my husband. I first spotted him when crossing the little foot bridge and had taken a full shot. Then decided I could go down to the grass where there was a BIG flat rock about 4 feet in front of him - and that's where I kneeled down and shot this one. He finally put his head up to look at me - (but didn't move otherwise)

OMG! What a brave girl you are! Great macro of this scaly creature. Well done! Did you use a BIG lens?
April 19th, 2015
@beachdog I mainly use my little Canon SX50 bridge camera - which does have an incredible zoom - but I actually wasn't too far zoomed out here - don't guess I was more than 4-5 feet from him.
April 19th, 2015
I don't even want to know how you got that close!!! Great capture! Glad he is not saying the same thing! =)
April 20th, 2015
What a picture! And so in focus which proves you weren't the least bit rattled by the encounter with this slithering reptile.
