Ft. Smith National Historic Site

We used to take the 4th graders here for Arkansas History but I never had a chance to really look at it. Top left and bottom are the barracks built in 1859 with the jail in the basement and the courthouse added in 1890. Top right is the old commissary built in 1839 ( was interesting seeing inside). The gallows middle right represented where Judge Isaac Parker (better known as The Hanging Judge) saw to the hanging of 87 men and 4 women during his years on the bench. Ft. Smith (about 45 minutes from where I live) was the "beginning" of the old west in the 1800's.
Excellent collage and history!

Nice history - I know what you mean about having been there, but never really having a real look….. too busy counting heads and doing crowd control to take everything in properly!

Field trips can be so much fun and interesting -- but the adults rarely have time to enjoy them. Good collage that conveys the feel of the place quite well.
