Pinecone and Lichen and the Nifty Fifty

I don't remember to play with this lens nearly as often as I should - I love the things it does. Shooting with the monochrome setting has been an interesting experience.

Fabulous dof with the nifty fifty! I love the clarity of the lichen and the interesting variety of textures. Looks really neat in black and white. I remember when I got my nifty fifty about two years ago. It opened up a whole new world!

I don't understand what the nifty fifty does - apart from clearly taking beautiful photos. To me it means that you are restricted to a set distance...can someone clarify? Lovely shot BTW

@callymazoo I like it because it's the only lens I have with a high aperture (1.8) so I have less problem with noise and greater bokeh when I want. My other lens are all lower apertures. Do have a problem with trying to get it to zoom on occasion :)
