Love the old homes in New England. This is my roommate's home, built in the 1800's and modernized - but no a/c - might get warm for this Southerner in the summer. Almost all the homes I saw were 2 and 3 story - wonder what the over 70 crowd does with all those stairs ?
I was always amazed at how well maintained the old homes were when we lived in New England. We had buildings that pre-dated the United States in our town and they were in good shape, especially given how harsh the winters are.
The homes are built to last- and weatherized quite extensively! This one is very pretty especially with that picket fence and decorations on the garage. Nice shot! (I think the over 70 crowd does one of three things- they move out or downstairs, they get a stair lift installed or they are in such good shape they just keep climbing them!)
New Englanders come from tough stock. I'm sure most of them do just fine. I grew up there and always hated all the colonial style homes. But now that I've lived in California for forty years this month, when I do make it home, I have a new appreciation for the New England aesthetic.
