Tonight brought another round of strong storms. We're used to this in Florida but this was a bad one. At some point, there was very loud thunder - loudest I've ever heard - and then we saw smoke in the next street over and heard fire engine sirens.
Turns out lightning struck a house about 400 ft. from my own house, and fire spread through their attic. I walked by the place and talked to the neighbors - they said the family inside rushed outside after the ceiling fell on them, and they saw flames in the attic.
I watched about over a dozen firefighters cut large holes in the roof and pour gallons of water inside for almost two hours. Evidently, the house is a total loss. Whatever didn't burn got flooded. Heartbreaking.
