This state hospital has been closed for a little while and they are now in the process of tearing it down. Some of the buildings are already gone. If you magnify the picture you can see an excavator truck in the middle of the picture. I don't know what they are doing with the land.
You captured the mood of a State Hospital very well in this shot. Somehow I always equate those older state hospitals with Shutter Island (if you saw that film)....spooky!!. You have created quite a masterpiece here ;-) PS Got your message & I can't stay away from taking photos ---Took about 30 today & will save some for year 2 starting April 1. Can hardly wait, but I want to start at the beginning of a month.
I live in a town of about 80,000 people, and we had a 1 star hospital in the town centre, with a maternity unit, A&E etc, and now we are all being diverted to a 0 star hospital half an hour drive away, while our hospital is slowly being shut down. Any doctor led births have to go to the other one, and if there are any problems during a midwife led birth, then you get stuck in an ambulance and sent off! We have no A&E anymore - there was an 80 year old lady who broke her leg in the foyer of the hospital, and they couldn't sort her out there! A town with 80,000 people needs a hospital! This picture certainly captures my feelings nicely.
This is really a fine photo. Your processing is really lovely, making this not so lovely bunch of buildings looks really special. The clouds are really awesome too.
The clouds above and the old buildings make the place seem very eery. I don't imagine you could get inside....probably some great urbex photography in there!
Thank you Carole. I haven't seen the movie Shutter Island. I'm going to have to look it up. It will be good to see you back on April 1.
