A fixer upper by mittens

A fixer upper

Saw this by the road yesterday and had to stop to take some shots. I bet this house could tell some stories.

Hope you all are having a great weekend. It is partly cloudy here with temps in the 40's. A very nice day.
Wow its certainly seen better days. Great find!

Very well spotted. The surrounding trees really give it that over grown look to go with the burnt out, run down appearance.

Its certainly sad looking. Great find.

Great capture. How sad the decay!
February 10th, 2013
Wow. There is certainly something that draws the eye to these falling down homes. Well captured.

Need some works on it. Great find and capture

Poor house looks so abandoned and the bare trees make it look even more desolate. Nice find.

Wouldn't this make a beautiful house, hope someone snaps it up; beautiful capture of it

Great find. It makes such a great photo. Too bad it is in such bad shape. It's sad to think that it was a very nice home at one time.

Poor sad house but this makes an interesting shot

Great find Marilyn

Abandoned homes always seem so sad-- reading through the comments I see that I am not the only one. The red looks very nice against the bare trees-- but also gives it an added sense of desolation. Good eye to catch it

The muted red in this shot is great with the snowy surrounding colours

I love taking shots of 'broken' homes....but like scrapped cars, they make me sad, as the were once someone's pride and joy.
February 10th, 2013
wow! what a find! I do wonder what the story is - so mysterious.
February 10th, 2013
That looks so sad :( The colour of the house is great in the snow though.
February 10th, 2013
Glad you stopped, this house looks almost emotional. Stories it has to tell...I bet they are quite the stories.

Cool find!

Nice shot!

Beautiful

Fabulous shot. I think you are so right about the stories it could tell!!!

Makes me think of the old song.....This old house once knew my children, this old house once knew my wife, this old house was hiome and shelter as we fought the storms of life, this old house once rang with laughter, this old house heard many shouts, now she trembles in the darkness when the lightning walks about. Aint't gonna need this house no longer, ain't gonna need this house no more, Ain't got time to fix the shingles, ain't got time to fix the floor, etc. I used to love that tune. My Dad was a fixer upper and would whistle this tune! Funny old house with so many memories, I bet! Great find!

Terrific shot. I bet it was gorgeous in it's day.

@ladydi53 Thank you Diana. What a wonderful song. I've never heard it before. It sure seems fitting to this house, too. I would love to know how this house became the way it looks.

nice find and excellent capture!

Nice POV - I always love a pop of red in the snow and I always wonder about the story behind a house like this.
February 11th, 2013
Nice shot! looks like it needs quite a lot of fixing upping, but I'm sure someone could do it...

Fabulous find, Marilyn. I would be very curious to know the history of this home. It looks like it was quite fabulous at one time. Wonder how old it is. How sad that it is abandoned. You captured this one beautifully, Marilyn.

è vero, chissà quante storie potrebbe raccontare ...
February 11th, 2013
Possibly a little past it's heyday! Shame!
February 11th, 2013
How sad that such a big old house has fallen into such a state of disrepair. Great photo though!
February 11th, 2013
Seems so sad.

My kind of photo!..... I am thinking of doing a series on old buildings. There's something about them that demands to be captured. I find myself wondering what life was like when they were first constructed and why they fell into a state of disrepair.

@shagbark
Thank you Larry. Great idea of doing a series of old buildings. I think you should. I'm thinking of maybe doing a series of barn shots this spring.
