Grammie's passport by mjmaven

Grammie's passport

These are some pages from my grandmother's passport. It was issued in Finland in 1920. Grammie was born in1903 so she was 17 years old in this photo. She came to the USA through Elllis Island and never saw Finland again. For many years she sent money and clothing back to her family in Finland but never went back herself. Sad that she never saw her own mother again but how wonderful for all of us to have had her for such a long life. She died 10 years ago, just 2 months shy of her 100th birthday.
What a fascinating piece of history to be cherished in your family. Thank you so much for sharing it here. Great photo / story!

Very well presented!..... Thanks for sharing her wonderful story and a great piece of personal memorabilia. You have given me a great idea as to how to display some of my stored paperwork.

Thank you all for your visits and comments. @anazad511 Ana - Grammie left the farm in Finland after her father died. She came to this country when she was so young to work and help support her family in Finland. She had cousins here in Massachusetts who sponsored her. She first went to Wellfleet, MA then moved to an area in Worcester, MA that had a high Finnish population. It was in Worcester that she met my grandfather who left Sweden at an equally young age. They didn't speak the same language but she always said he could dance!!

How wonderful to have this. I would love to have a copy of my maternal grandmother's passport only to see her photo, She died when I was one so I never knew her and we have no photographs of her. She came over from Hungary in the early 1900s when she was just a teenager.
