They have wonderful coloursas the black is a blue/green black. Why is the place called the Garden of the Gods. It looks quite arid and I imagine gods having a lusher garden!!

@kelly2 There really isn't a short answer. The name seems to have evolved. There are many native peoples who have spirited a connection to the Garden of the Gods. The Utes oral traditions tell they found red rocks to have a spiritual connection. The red rock formations were created during a geological upheaval along a natural fault line millions of years ago. The Park was established in 1909 and designated as a U.S. National Natural Landmark in 1971. We have family in the area, and hope to return.
